Write From Your Future Self

In Write From Your Future Self, Jeff encourages writers to embrace a faith-filled perspective on their calling. Drawing on the concept of prospection—our ability to imagine the future—he challenges authors to stop rehearsing fear and failure, and instead align their imagination with God’s promises. He suggests that the person God is calling them to become already exists in Christ and is waiting for them to step into that identity. By writing from their future, God-ordained self rather than from insecurity or doubt, writers can experience a powerful shift in confidence, clarity, and purpose. Jeff invites readers to a free 5-day Kingdom Author Challenge to help them begin this journey and start writing with faith, not fear.

Write From Your Future Self

What if the author God is calling you to become already exists—and is waiting for you to catch up?

Last week at Biblical Human, I wrote about a concept called prospection—the God-given ability to imagine the future.

Psychologist Benjamin Hardy defines prospection as our mental capacity to simulate and plan for what's ahead. The problem is, most of us do it poorly. We predict fear. We imagine worst-case scenarios. We rehearse failure, this impacts how we live.

The past ends up defining the future.

But what if we turned this around?

What if, instead of using your imagination to worry, you used it to partner with God's promises?

I've seen this transformation happen with dozens of writers I've coached. When they stop seeing themselves as "aspiring authors" and start stepping into their identity as the writers God has called them to be, something shifts.

Their words flow differently. Their impact deepens. Their confidence—not in themselves, but in God's calling—becomes unshakable.

The Biblical Truth Behind Your Future Self

As followers of Jesus, we're not just guessing at our future—we've been told who we're becoming.

"When He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is." —1 John 3:2

If that's true (and it is), then your most authentic self isn't behind you. It's ahead of you—in Christ.

And if you're called to write, then the most powerful words you'll ever share are the ones written from your future self—the one God already sees.

Paul understood this. He wrote in Philippians 3:12: "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."

Paul lived and wrote from the tension of "not yet, but pressing on." He wrote from his future self—the one Christ had already secured.

Try This: Future Self Writing Exercise

  1. Take five quiet minutes with God.
  2. Ask: Who am I becoming in You, Lord?
  3. Picture yourself writing confidently, faithfully, truthfully.
  4. Now write the next paragraph of your book—from that version of you.

This isn't a mind game or manipulation. It's stepping into the reality of who God says you are. It's claiming by faith and in the Holy Spirit what He has already declared over you.

This is what the Kingdom Author Challenge is all about.

It's a free 5-day experience starting Monday, June 2nd, where I'll help you:

  • Clarify your message
  • Structure your book
  • Overcome resistance
  • Write with faith and purpose

You don't need to wait until you "feel ready." You just need to start showing up as the person you're becoming.
