The Last Words of Dying Man
My Friend and Client, Tom Gladstone.
Tom Gladstone died this weekend.
He had been bravely and faithfully battling pancreatic cancer.
We at Indie Christian Book had the privilege of working with Tom on his book over the past months, and I can tell you this with complete clarity:
Tom knew what his life was about.
It was his God.
And it was his family.
In that order.
Not as an idea or something he talked about.
As something he built his entire life around.
Late in life, after reflecting on everything—his career, his experiences, his successes and failures—Tom came to a simple conclusion:
He believed his purpose was to find God…
to follow Him faithfully…
and to build a family that would do the same.
And when you look at his life, you see it.
More than sixty years of marriage.
Children who love the Lord.
Grandchildren walking in faith.
That didn’t happen by accident.
Tom was a cartographer in the Air Force. He made maps. And near the end of his life, he realized something most people never do:
“When we lose our orientation in life, what we really need is not a new destination, but a return to True North.”
For Tom, True North was God.
Everything else followed from that.
His family wasn’t the center.
God was.
And because God was at the center, his life bent toward something that actually lasts.
A marriage that endured.
A family that multiplied faith.
A legacy that will outlive him.
Most people don’t live that way.
We drift.
We react.
We build around things that move—career, money, comfort, recognition.
Tom didn’t.
He oriented his life around something unchanging.
And then he invested his life into people.
That’s what makes his book so powerful:

It’s not theory.
It’s not abstract theology.
It’s the clarity of a man who has lived long enough to know what matters—and short enough to say it plainly.
You can feel it in the pages.
It’s steady.
It’s anchored.
It’s real.
If you’re feeling disoriented…
If you’re building something and wondering if it will last…
If you want your life to point somewhere true…

Read this book.
Because Tom didn’t just write about finding north.
He found it.
His God.
His family.
And now, he’s home.

P.S. If you read it, don’t rush it. This is the kind of book that helps you reorient your life, not just your thinking.
P.S.S. (Or is it P.P.S, I always forget!) I have a blog on Substack called Biblical Human where I write more devotional/discipleship content. I’d be honored if you’d check it out here.
