Seeking Truth to Write About It.
Some people know something, so they write about it.
Then they want to keep writing, but they already said the thing they know.
The work then is to seek out the truth and write again.
Maybe you started a Substack and you were excited about all the things you were going to write about.
Then you wrote four posts and realized there weren’t that many things.
Now what?
Now get curious.
What do you want to know about?
What’s peaking your interest right now that is somewhere in the realm of your knowledge?
If you really want to make an impact, that is, you want people to read your work and act on it, match your curiosity with the curiosity of the readers.
How?
I was looking for a tool like Publisher Rocket, which my book publishing team uses to find the best way to launch our books (and it’s even better for deciding what kind of book to write!). I wanted something like that for blog posts and articles.
No one has made that yet, but I found something close:
ET tracks subjects on the web that are gaining momentum and catches them just before they hit mainstream. What are people just starting to care about that you can get in on?
But I wouldn’t use it to simply chase trends.
Use it to discover questions.
You notice people everywhere are suddenly interested in a topic: loneliness, a.i., motherhood.
Everyone will be writing obvious articles on these and saying what everyone else is saying.
But you could ask, What do I really think about this? Or better yet, What does the Bible have to say about this?
Once you are curious, you’ll have inspiration and energy, and when you are curious about a topic everyone is getting excited to read about, you have a (potential) hit.
Curiosity is contagious.
If you’re running out of ideas, don’t just stare at a blank page.
Go find out what the world is wondering about. Wonder about it with them until you know what you think, and you at least think you know what God thinks.
Go seek the truth, and let us know what you find.
Announcing a New Book from Indie Christian Book
I’m excited to announce the release of Letters to Judy by Martin H. Needham.
This is not a devotional written after the storm.
It was written from inside it.
As Marty walked alongside his wife through cancer, caregiving, and loss, he began writing daily reflections that testify to God’s faithfulness in the hardest moments of life.
This is not a devotional written after the storm.
It is written from inside it.
If you are walking through suffering, caring for someone you love, or searching for God in the middle of pain, this book will meet you there.
God is near.
Grace is enough.
Love endures.
Congratulations, Marty, on faithfully sharing your story. We’re honored to help bring this book into the world.
You can find Letters to Judy now on Amazon.
